Elements of Solitaire
Welcome to Solitaire Games for the Palm Connected Organizer. This application allows you to play five popular versions of solitaire. Solitaire is a descriptive term for many variations of card games designed to played by one person. Most solitaire games share similar terminology and objectives; some are almost completely unique. This chapter will cover the language and rules common to the soltaire games in this package as well as how to use the PalmPilot to play the games included.

Terms
Most solitaire games have many terms in common. It will be to your benefit to know these terms as they are used to describe rules for the different games in this pack.

Foundation
In many solitaire games the objective is to place an eligible card on the foundation. If the game you are playing is a point based game, you will most likely receive points for placing a card on the foundation. Once a card is placed on a foundation, it may no longer be moved.

Columns
Columns are the stacks of cards that are face up and in play (as opposed to in the foundation). In many games, cards in a column may only be played (moved) if they are not covered by another card.

Deck
The deck contains cards that are eligible for play when flipped face-up. These cards will be turned over by tapping the top of the deck. In many games the end is reached when the last card in the deck has been turned.

Discard Pile
The discard pile contains cards that have remained unused and are covered by one or more card(s) from the deck. The top card is usually playable. The other cards may become playable if a card in the discard pile above it is played to the foundation or columns.

Bridging the Gap from Cards to Pixels
Solitaire on your Palm Connected Organizer will provide you with several conveniences, but if you are new to the PalmPilot you will probably need to refer to your PalmPilot Owner's Manual for someof the terminology included in this section. Fortunately one is easily acclimated to using Solitaire Games on this device.

Options
To access Solitaire Games' options tap the Menu button. You will find the Menu button in the silk screen of the PalmPilot. It provides access to the three menus in Solitaire: "Options", "Edit", and "Games".

Games Menu
The Games Menu allows you to choose which versions of solitaire you wish to play. Since you will always have one solitaire game showing, it will only display the four other games.

Alternatively, you may select to play any particular version of solitaire by using the graffiti pad. You must fist enter a command slash and then a number, which corresponds to the game you wish to play.

Bristol: Command-1

Eight-Off: Command-2

Klondike: Command-3

Poker Square: Command-4

Pyramid: Command-5

Edit Menu
The Edit Menu will allow you to either start a new game or undo a move. If you start a new game your old game will be lost. Much like the Games Menu, you may use the command options displayed in the menu to perform the corresponding action.

Options Menu
There are three options under the Options Menu: Stats, Settings, and About Solitaire

Stats displays game play statistics on whatever solitaire game you are currently displaying. In this case, tapping stats will display the your current Pyramid statistics. The statistics displayed will, of course, vary with the Solitaire Game you are currently playing.

The Settings option will allow you to change Solitaire Games' settings. The top selection will turn off the new game prompt.

If it is turned off you will not be warned that starting a new game will terminate the old game. The settings beneath the line apply only to the Klondike game. They will allow you to choose between turning one and three cards, and a regular game and Vegas game. For more information on these features refer to the Klondike section.
